Welcome,
Ambient Intelligence (AMI) refers to electronic environments that are
sensitive and responsive to the presence of people. In the
area of ambient intelligence, a wide range of technologies is
involved. On one hand you can think about hardware related
technology like sensor, energy, actuator and network
technology. On the other hand it's about software related
technology, like communication between the different hardware
parts, merging and interpretation of obtained data,
transformation of data into information, and learning from
experience. Beside the technological aspects however, also
social and ethical aspects play an important role in the
usefulness and acceptance, and as a consequence the success in
the future, of ambient technology. Since AMI strives seamless
integration of technology in people's daily life, the social
impact can be high.
The goal of this minor is to give students an introduction into the
field of ambient intelligence, the application and the reach
of it. The student understands how ambient intelligence can
possibly influence people and organisational behaviour on one
hand and can serve them on the other hand. The student gains
basic knowledge about the used technologies in general, and
furthermore some more thorough knowledge about ambient related
technologies out of his own study domain (major).
